The
New Daylily Handbook
The classic 1968 American Hemerocallis Society Daylily
Handbook has been revised and expanded. Not just
a picture book or catalog of daylily faces, it contains
extensive writings from the "golden age"
when Hemerocallis was a research organ for no less
than the U.S. Government. Contributors such as Virginia
Peck, Robert Griesbach, Toru Arisumi, R.W. Munson,
Jr. and Shiu-ying Hu make this book a valuable tool
for serious study of the daylily.

An
Illustrated Guide to Daylilies
This new AHS publication
is an excellent source of information for all daylily
growers. Greatly expanded from Daylilies: the Beginner's
Handbook, which it replaces. This 112-page book
contains many more color photos and illustrations
and enhances the text that clearly explains what
growing daylilies is all about. Many additional
sections have been added to address unusual forms,
polytepals, labeling, landscaping with daylilies,
daylily flower arrangements, general care and pests
and diseases. Much more detailed than the FAQ found
here, this book will answer most of your questions
about this great perennial. Also included is an
original poem written by AHS member, Rod McKuen,
entitled Daylily Blossoms.

The Color Encyclopedia
of Daylilies
Ted L. Petit and
John P. Peat
A vast array of daylily hybrids has been developed
from only a small group of species in Hemerocallis. Hundreds
of new daylilies are introduced each year, and no other
book describes and illustrates so many of the hybrids in
one place. The parent species are also included, but the
focus is on the amazing developments that have been achieved
through hybridization.
Close-up photographs show the
detailed characteristics that hybridizers work for. Each photo
is accompanied by a thorough description of the daylily's
color, size, bloom season, and parentage. In addition to the
pictorial encyclopedia, the book offers extensive information
on cultivation and hybridization.

DAYLILIES FOR THE GARDEN
With
his usual thoroughness, author Graeme Grosvenor presents background
information on daylily species, major factors influencing the type
of daylily to grow, planting and cultivation tips, descriptions
and careful explanation of classification and an extensive section
listing major cultivars of both large and small flowered daylilies.
To inspire his readers he presents plenty of suggestions for gardening
and landscaping visions. And though daylilies are known for their
ease of care, he includes details of control of the pests and diseases
occasionally affecting them. The color photographs are a visual
feast and Graeme does not stint on relaying his photographic tips.
For his photography alone, this book is one to treasure.
