Resting Bud, Dormant Bud

Deciduous daylilies overwinter as compact, dormant buds that are entirely or mostly below the soil surface. When environmental conditions trigger these buds to break their dormancy they will grow as new fans. The length and width of dormant buds varies between cultivars and species.
