Guest Speaker – Canadian Dave Mussar has been a gardener most of his life. In 2000 he was introduced to the world of modern hybrid daylilies and started with his first crosses and joined the Ontario Daylily Society and the American Hemerocallis Society. Early in his hybridizing career one of his goals was to produce a spotted daylily. He has since introduced speckled and interesting patterned daylilies and is also focused on extra early blooming tetraploids. Beyond these goals are flowers with toothy edges and northern hardiness with superior plant performance. He is a fan of the late Brother Charles Reckamp and believes many of his later introductions are rarely used and have untapped hybridizing potential. Oscie Whatley is another favorite. Oscie’s distinctive clear colored vigorous daylilies are well represented in Dave’s collection and he continues to breed with them. He has many friends hybridizing in northern hardy daylilies. Bryan Culver, Mike Georges, Gil Stelter, Michael Bouman are all mentors and enable his interests in daylilies. Dave is currently an AHS region 4 officer and organizes the popular annual Can-Am Daylily Classic.
After reading an article from the spring 2015 issue of the American Hemerocallis Society Journal, we felt we needed to find Dave Mussar and his daylilies
