Want to get your daylily “fix” in the middle of winter? Come to the Winter Gathering at the Drury Inn in Independence, MO. The weekend begins on Friday night with a program by Mary Baker from Omaha, NE. Mary has 26 registrations and her daylilies will be great for our area. Friday afternoon the Exhibition Judges clinic 1 will be held and Sat. afternoon they will hold Garden Judges 1. These are great classes to take even if you don’t want to be a judge. The information you receive on what makes a great daylily will help you evaluate the daylilies in your home garden.
Saturday morning there will be a presentation by Lenora Larson on your garden personality. This is a fun way to find out what type of garden you are planting and why we are all so different. The afternoon speaker is Dan Bachman from Valley of the Daylilies in Lebanon Ohio. After the presentations Mary and Dan will be available at the Hybridizer’s Round Table to answer any questions you might have about getting started in hybridizing or just general information.
Saturday night after the banquet there will be a fantastic auction of plants from many hybridizers around the country. In past years we have had about 100 to bid on. The pictures of the auction plants are posted during the Friday and Saturday sessions so you can pick out your favorites before the auction.
Sunday morning the hybridizers from Missouri, Kansas & Oklahoma will have power points of their latest seedlings and introductions. There will also be a silent auction for many plants and items and a bag auction for more plants and garden art.
The registration fee is $89 for the weekend activities. The Drury Inn room rate is $106 plus taxes. The rate includes a full breakfast and evening drinks and snacks from 5:30-7pm.
